If Baylor doesn’t make the NCAA tournament next season, something will have had to go terribly wrong in Waco.

With the announcement on Monday that Perry Jones will be returning for his sophomore season, the Bears are prepared to field one of the more talented teams in the country.

Jones and freshman Quincy Miller are future lottery picks; both are capable of taking over games. Jones, a 6-foot-11 forward, averaged 13.9 points and 7.2 rebounds this past season, while Miller is a consensus top-five recruit when healthy. They are both long, athletic and create match-up problems for opponents.

Throw in Quincy Acy, a physical 6-foot-7 forward who finishes around the rim and rebounds well at both ends of the floor, and 6-foot-10 Anthony Jones, and Scott Drew will have a deep frontline.

In the backcourt, California transfer Gary Franklin will be eligible at the semester break – he will immediately become an impact scorer. A.J. Walton returns at point guard, while Stargell Love will see an increased role. Incoming freshman Deuce Bello is perhaps the best athlete in the high school ranks; his highlight-reel dunks will be a nightly occurrence.

NBA Draft

With all the talent at his disposal, Drew has to get this team to the Big Dance. Even with the loss of LaceDarius Dunn, a repeat of this past season does not seem likely.

As I look at the Big 12-minus-2, apart from Missouri, I do not see any team that will be a guaranteed win for KU next season. We very well could drop a game against Baylor in Waco next season.

Yeah, he sucked - are  you serious?? 16 ppg, 7 reb.pg, 1 blkpg, 56% floor and 76% ft in the Big 12.
Nice  try - FAIL

Well lets be honest. He SUCKED this year at Baylor. He was a huge bust, just like his team this year. If he would have gone in the lottery, it would have been only because of his size and potential, and wouldnt have had a thing to do with his game. We'll see if the NCAA will let him play next year after they suspended him for the remainder of the season this year for receiving improper benefits. Regardless, Baylor cannot be worse without him.

Perry Jones was not ready, he made the best decision to come back and work on his game a bit more, I hope he stays injury free, Baylor should be able to make a deep run, they disappointed people this year with a lackluster season.  I still have to wonder how they were able to get so many prized recruits.

Guys like Jones and Sullinger returning are a great thing for college basketball. I wish there were more guys like them who would be patient when it comes to going to the NBA and not just see the dollar signs flashing in front of them. Sic em Bears!

Big surprise here.  He would have been a top 10 pick guaranteed but this shows a lot of maturity to come back for one more year.  His team fell well short of expectations this year and with the players coming back and the incoming freshman they should do damage in the Big 12 next year.

He wasn't ready for the NBA and he made a good decision coming back and improving his game rather than sitting at the end of the bench trying to get stronger.

This kid oozes character and so does his family.  How many people do you know would forgo $5+ million to come back and face a 5 game suspension for the most minimal offense from the NCAA that almost every writer in the country has called bogus.  No matter what your school affiliation, everyone should wish nothing but the best for Perry Jones going forward.
