Z. Mason had a decision to make coming out of high school: Go the high-major route for football or play mid-major basketball.

Mason went to Ole Miss as the No. 2 tight end in the nation (per ESPN.com), redshirted his freshman season and didn’t play much this past year.

So now he’s returning to the hardwood.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Mason told CBSSports.com he has decided to transfer to Chattanooga and will be able to play immediately.

Mason got a glowing report from his former AAU teammate, Vanderbilt star John Jenkins.

``I’ve seen him go against the best of the best,” Jenkins said on Wednesday. ``He held his own against DeMarcus Cousins and Alex Oriakhi. He jumps out of the gym and could be a pro if he was 6-10.”

Mason, whose real name is Zaccheus (he said only his mother calls him that), said he will have three years of eligibility for the school that was on him first when it came to basketball.

``He’s big, physical and dunks everything,” Jenkins said. ``He’ll do well at Chattanooga. Really well.”
