Boston University has decided to go across town and hire BC associate head coach Joe Jones.

Sources told CBSSports.com that Jones was informed of the news on Tuesday. The other finalist was BU assistant Brian Daly, who spent the last two years on Pat Chambers’ staff.

BU's athletic director opted to go with another coach with Villanova ties. Jones and Chambers were both former Jay Wright assistants.

Jones spent seven seasons as the head coach at Columbia before resigning to join Steve Donahue’s staff at BC a little more than a year ago.

Jones replaces Chambers -- who left a few weeks ago for Penn State -- and will take over a program that is considered tops in the America East. The school has a news conference scheduled for Monday to formally introduce Jones as head coach.
