What a way to make an announcement: a Friday night at 7:30 p.m., on Twitter.

Andre Drummond, the No. 2 prospect in the class of 2012, is headed to Connecticut – in the fall.

“It’s official,” Drummond tweeted. “I’m heading to the University of Connecticut to be a Husky this year!”

The news was confirmed to by a source with knowledge of the situation.

Earlier this month, Drummond made an announcement that he was doing a prep year at Wilbraham & Monson, and also narrowed his list of schools to five: Connecticut, Georgetown, Kentucky, Louisville and West Virginia.

With Connecticut out of scholarships, sources have told that Drummond could become a walk-on and pay his own way this year.

He joins a 2011 recruiting class that also includes Ryan Boatright and DeAndre Daniels.

HATERS...HATERS...HATERS....UConn never and mean never gets a top 5 High School Player, so the one time that they do (not to mention hes a Connecticut kid - who decided to stay home) all I hear is UConn cheated to get him.....Do we say that about all the top 5 players DUKE, UNC, AND KENTUCKY gets.....NO! The real problem hear is ...the haters know UConn has won 3 championships without top 5 players and they are ALL NERVOUS now...If UConn starts getting the top High School players they would have 6 championships...and everyone knows it....THAT'S WHY ITS SO MUCH HATE.....STRAIGHT RIDUCULOUS

I agree 100%!..people dont understand that in ct all we have is uconn as far as sports goes so to be from connecticut and be good enough to even be recruited by uconn is a dream come true for some kids and to be actually offered a scholarship is like a new york city kid being offered a contract from the knicks! me dunn would have came also but he knew with shabazz and boatright more than likely still there plus omar calhoun coming in next year he would have more of a fight for playing time then at providence.this really amounts to a kid from ct living out a dream of every other kid in connecticut so i really dont see what all the fuss is about, this kid and calhoun and anybody affiliated with the program knew he was either coming to uconn or going to the nba,he just decided to live out both dreams instead of just one!

Really, and what did OSU pay for Oden?  Oh thats right Tressell said "Hey Pryor if you come to OSU we will hook you up with free tats", that explains why he choose OSU over Penn State and Oregon, or maybe Oregon didn't pay enough to his recruiting service, I mean mentor

Good for UConn. As a Kentucky fan, I wish we'd have gotten him but it's a deep class and I'm totally content with UK's 2011 class. I understand Drummond wasn't as dominant against the summer league big men and opted to go to prep school to get better, bigger and stronger. Only time will tell.

Assuming that he qualifies.  Just because he "graduated" doesn't necessarily mean that he has the core classes to qualify.  We'll see.  Committing is a world away from playing.

It's possible Drummond was just waiting to see if Calhoun was coming back. You never know if Calhoun told Drummond if you see the AD go then I will definitely be back. Coaching basketball is in Calhoun's blood. He may just come back again for years to come. A confident player will gravitate to a great coach. Despite all the haters who are jealous of the signing, Calhoun is a great coach. This was a no brainer. Stay at home and have all your friends and relatives attend every game.

The number of bitter, jealous postings implying that Drummond was bought is staggering and sad. Drummond is from Connecticut, and he chose to attend his state university, a top-notch program, and a hall of fame coach who has an unparalleled track record for developing NBA players. Oh yeah, UConn also just won a national championship. If he had chosen to go anywhere else, now that would have been reason to be suspicious.

Great purchase

I see Calhoun has bought one more piece to fit into what might be his last hurrah as a coach.  This couldn't be any more obvious if it was THE Ohio State University buying Greg Oden or Terrelle Pryor, or Auburn outbidding everyone at the last minute for Cam Newton.
