Remember that highly ranked recruiting class that had St. John's fans excited?

It's the same class that now has the same fans disappointed.

Class of 2011 signees Amir Garrett, Jakarr Sampson and Norvel Pelle have all been declared ineligible by the NCAA, St. John's confirmed Thursday. The school is still hoping to get the talented trio through the NCAA Clearinghouse in time for the second semester, but it remains undetermined whether that'll actually happen. Meantime, a source told CBSSports.com on Thursday that Sampson, a 6-foot-7 wing, might now elect to return to where he played last season -- Brewster Academy.

Sampson and Garrett were both ranked in the Top 100 of CBSSports.com's Class of 2011 rankings.

Sampson was No. 55. Garrett was No. 89.

Maybe one....but THREE !!

OK....I can see a program like St. John going after a questionable player. Hell, even NCAA squeeky-clean Calipari went after a marginal student or two, take Eric Bledsoe for example........no issue with pursuing one guy like that. But to have the entire class hit the fan at once is almost unprecidented. For gods sake Lavin, talk about a waste of time and resource. As a UK fan I'm pissed about it, because now our Dec 1st game loses a lot of it's national luster. The Johnnies will limp out of Rupp with a 20 point butt-whippin', and that will be that......not much drama in that.

Three St. John's freshmen ruled ineligible

Why all the whining. The rules are clearly stated and they either meet the requirements or they don't and obviously they didn't meet the requirements. No one can know if this was Duke that it would have been overlooked. I doubt that it would have been let go. This comes from a Duke hater. Go Tarheels.

Three St. John's freshmen ruled ineligible

If the three had been recruited by Duke, this would have never happened.....
