2011 Midnight Madness schedule of events

Thirty-five of the 74 BCS teams have opted to have Midnight Madness festivities this season. Yes, that’s less than 50 percent.

Omitted from descriptions are performances from school bands, cheerleaders and dance teams, as well as team scrimmages. These things are commonplace at just about every event. Who’s hosting and who’s doing what? Take a look. We’ve also included some prominent non-BCS schools at the bottom.

North Carolina: Oct. 14, 8 p.m., Dean Dome. Team skits, team dances and other undisclosed activities.
Duke: Oct. 14, 8 p.m., Cameron Indoor. Videos, student-group performances, dunk contest.
Florida State: Oct. 14, 6 p.m., Donald L. Tucker Center. Dunk contest, 3-point contest.

Clemson: Oct. 21, 8 p.m., Littlejohn Coliseum. Skills competition, fan-player activities,Red Panda will provide entertainment.
Boston College: Oct. 27, 7 p.m., Conte Forum. Hoops and hockey split the arena to inaugurate their seasons. Entertainment TBA.
Maryland: Oct. 14, 9:30 p.m., Comcast Center. Men’s alumni game.

Wake Forest: On Oct. 8 the school had a Hall of Fame Weekend that included former players such as Tim Duncan, Chris Paul, Ish Smith, Randolph Childress and Josh Howard on campus.
Big East
Syracuse: Oct. 14, 7 p.m. Carrier Dome. A Syracuse alumni game that features Carmelo Anthony, Derrick Coleman, Hakim Warrick, Pearl Washington, Billy Owens, Wesley Johnson, Jonny Flynn and others. Rapper Meek Mill will perform, as will Russian Bar Trio, an acrobatic act that appeared on “America’s Got Talent.”
Connecticut: Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Gampel Pavilion. Autograph session, 3-point and dunk contests, plus other unspecified entertainment. Former UConn players currently in the NBA are rumored to be attending.
Notre Dame: Oct. 21, 7 p.m., Joyce Center. Dick Vitale and Digger Phelps will host. Many contests for students. Other details still being arranged.
Louisville: Oct. 14, 7 p.m., KFC Yum! Center. Just a scrimmage on the docket.
St. John’s: Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Carnesecca Arena. An iPad2 and $50,000 are prizes in the mix. Free Nathan’s Hot Dogs to the first 1,500 fans that show. DJ Webstar will provide entertainment.
West Virginia: Oct. 14, 7:30 p.m., WVU Coliseum. Dunk contest, one-hour autograph session.

Marquette: Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Al McGuire Center. Dunk contest,karaoke with coach Buzz Williams and the team.
Villanova: Oct. 21, 7 p.m., the Pavilion. Entertainment planned but not disclosed prior to the event.
Rutgers: Oct. 14, 9:30 p.m., College Avenue Gymnasium. Half-court-shot contest to win a two-year lease valued at $15,000 on a Volkswagon. Dunk, 3-point contests, plus a DJ.
Providence: Oct. 14, 9:30 p.m., Alumni Hall. Dunk contest from former Friars Marshon Brooks, Ryan Gomes, Marvin Barnes and Ernie Digregorio. Local hip-hop artist Ace Diamond and various emcees will provide music and entertainment.
DePaul: Oct. 14, 9 p.m., McGrath-Phillips Arena. Undisclosed contest will award winning person to travel with the men’s and women’s teams to the conference tournaments in March.
Big Ten
Michigan State: Oct. 14, 9:30, Breslin Center. Tom Izzo’s appearance is always a secret and usually coincides in theme with the Final Four destination in that season (this year: New Orleans). Promotional giveaways.

Penn State: Nov. 2, 7:30 p.m., Rec Hall. Half-court-shot contest for $10,000, a “Finish The Play” contest (where past great plays are shown on the video board & then paused and contest has to tell what happened next), a push-up competition against a staff member for free laundry. An entertainer is planned but has not been announced.
Minnesota: Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m. Williams Arena. Skills competition, 3-point contest, dunk contest.

Indiana: Oct. 15, 8 p.m., Assembly Hall. Former IU players will be on hand.

Big 12
Kansas: Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m., Allen Fieldhouse. Skits from the women’s and men’s teams.
Texas A&M: Oct. 14, midnight, at Kyle Field in conjunction with football team’s annual “midnight yell” practice.
Baylor: Oct. 14, 6 p.m., Ferrell Center. Dunk and 3-point contests, autograph session afterwards.
Oklahoma State: Oct. 28, 9 p.m. Gallagher-Iba Arena. “Homecoming and Hoops” festivities.
Oklahoma: Oct. 16, 6 p.m., Lloyd Noble Center. On-court contests for randomly selected fans. Autograph session afterward.
Oregon: Oct. 14, 8 p.m., Matt Arena. Jerry Allen and Mal Williams will host. A raffle will mean prizes giveaways all night. Fans and students will participate in basketball and dance contests. Ten pairs of the limited-edition Pit Crew Air Jordan 3 shoes will be given away.
Washington State: Oct. 14, 8 p.m., Bohler Gym. Dunk and 3-point contest, as well as crowd involvement in other contests.
Kentucky: Oct. 14, 7:30 p.m., Rupp Arena. All events — every single one — are not disclosed prior to.

Vanderbilt: Oct. 14, 8 p.m., Memorial Gymnasium. Autograph session, a dunk contest, 3-point contest.
Mississippi State: Oct. 14, 8:45 p.m., Humphrey Coliseum. Gifts for lucky fans include an iPad 2, courtside seats to a non-conference game, and coach Rick Stansbury will pay $5,000 toward a student’s books/tuition. Also: 3-point shooting contests and a dance-off.
Arkansas: Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Bud Walton. Hot Shot competition. Men’s and women’s team and one student will win undisclosed prizes. Dunk competition. Former players expected to be judges.
Auburn:Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Auburn Arena. Dunk contest. Prior to the event, inflatable games for kids, a face painter and a balloon artist will entertain during Fan Fest outside the arena.
Gonzaga: Oct. 22, 4 p.m., the Kennel. One fan will be eligible for a $10,000 prize in coordination with the local chocolate factory. Other activities planned.
Memphis: Oct. 14, 7 p.m., FedEx Forum. Hip-hop star Rick Ross will perform. Dunk, 3-point contests. Celebrity judges: Ross, Penny Hardaway and others.

Xavier: Oct. 21, 4 p.m., Cintas Center. Autographs, slam dunk contest, other undisclosed activities planned.
San Diego State: Oct. 14, 6 p.m., Viejas Arena. Open practice.
UNLV: Oct. 16, 6 p.m., Thomas & Mack Center. Open practice. On Friday night, the team will host an introductory event/party at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Vegas.
