UPDATE, 2:17 p.m. ET. Bob Huggins released the following statement. It reads in full: “I’ve been alerted about the situation and the matter will be handled internally.”

West Virginia junior forward Aaric Murray was arrested Thursday morning in Philadelphia and charged with possession of narcotics.

Police spokesperson Tanya Little confirmed that the 22-year-old Murray, a Philadelphia native who is sitting out this season after transferring from La Salle, was arrested at 9:50 a.m. on the 1700 block of South 20th St. and is currently being held on bail.

Calls to West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, who is in Las Vegas for a tournament, weren't immediately returned. The Mountaineers play Missouri State in the Las Vegas Classic Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.

The 6-foot-10 center, a highly touted recruit coming out of high school, averaged 15.2 points and 7.7 rebounds during his sophomore season at La Salle. Murray chose West Virginia over Oklahoma State and Kansas last spring, and was sitting out this year due to NCAA transfer regulations.

In high school, Murray attended the Glen Mills School, which is for adjudicated delinquents, normally placed there by the courts. At La Salle, Murray and head coach John Giannini did not see eye to eye on many occasions and Murray - a Top 50 recruit coming out of high school - was benched at times.

West Virginia's Murray arrested for possession

I like how people are so forgiving when it's a player(s) from their favourite team. But I wonder how many of you would truly say that if it's someone from another team.

Having said all that, pot is no more of a drug then alcohol, the sooner people realize it, the better we'll all be. Just because it's againgst the rules, doesn't make it wrong.

College kid smokes pot; news at 6 and 11...

This really should be handled in-house, and shouldn't be a national story.  Kids smoke pot; it's part of college for most.  The real story is that he was either unlucky, stupid, or arrogant enough to get caught by the legal system.  He should be made to sit a game or two, followed by some extra "conditioning," like running up and down the arena steps until his legs give out.

Then, while he is icing his quads, Huggins can tell him how much smarter it would have been to drink alcohol.

Calling pot a "narcotic" is like calling Diet Mt Dew a hard drug.

I know, I know, this is where people call me a pot head. Not even close.

I dont "do" anything. Not even caffinated soft drinks.

I might drink 3-4 beers a month.

I have 3 daughters. As they entered their teens I started telling them facts or rules about boys. #1 on the list is all boys are stupid. #2 they all lie in order to get what they want. These conditions usually lingers on until their mid to late 20s. #3 By the time they are 30 or so most of them have sufficiently grown up enough to become smart enough to survive in the world. There are, however, a small percentage that never get out of it. These are men to avoid. By the time women get married they will hopefuly find someone as good as their father assuming he has achieved at least a minimal level 3 grown up status.

Some boys/men need to have someone in their lives to achieve any status beyond numbers 1 and 2. One can say all they want about Huggins accepting less desirable characters but if you have any real knowledge at all about him you know he is a stern father figure. Sure, he isn't always successful but every coach has his share of failures.

But all of this is just part of growing up.

Yeah, WVU has been impressive. Stop living off of a win in 2007. Since then, they've been nothing. Boise is a better program so good bye. The school is fine. I think it's a good thing that the administration has to tell everyone to take their couches off the front porches for a big game because people might get the wrong impression of the area. It's more like they'll get the true impression. You are a much better fit in the B12, so enjoy. Mullets for coaches will be in style out there and he can have all the Jack Daniels he wants at some Indian casino in the Midwest.

West Virginia's Murray arrested for possession

I'm all for giving guys second chances...especially young guys who make immature choices early in life...but this guys sounds like BAD NEWS.  I know that Pitt did not even consider him coming out of high school.  WVU is a bitter rival, but I would suggest that they cut him loose...soon!!

One more thing this graduation rate is bullcrap. Take Kansas State for an example they are graduating 100% of their white ballplayers and 14% of black ballplayers! By your ignorant logic it would be wrong for coaches at KSU to recruit Black people. So that logic is BS and you know it! Syracuse has a grad rate of 55% or less every year..does that mean they recruit trash too? You are an idiot to even bring that up! Most stupid argument Ive ever listened to hands down! Florida and Kentucky only graduates 44% but No its just a problem with Huggins huh? Go WVU!!!!!!!

The record shows that Huggins beat the greatest team never to win anything, Cousins, Wall, Patterson, Bledsoe, Miller, and Liggins. Perhaps the most talented colelge team ever, with six players taken in the first round of the draft. Waxed them like a cheap floor. Owned them. Used them. Abused them. Tossed them to the curb. Zipped 'em up. And he did it with practically nothing. Murray is a transfer from Lasalle. He only had one year year of eligibility left, and sought out Huggins, thinking that he could get him ready for the NBA. That horse appears to have left the barn. Murray was obviously too ignorant to stay out of trouble just for one year. Absolute moron. Huggs is also the third active winningest coach, How many wins does your current basketball coach have? If your school isn't Duke, UConn, or Syracuse then it's less than Huggins.

Cred

This bust will be good for his street cred--he'll get respect in the locker room.  Next--he can make a rap album during his time off.
