The Poll Attacks

You think adopting a cute dog will keep you out of the Poll Attacks?

Think again, Toni.

Think again.

Let's go!

Associated Press poll: Pittsburgh is 11-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big East.

And yet the Panthers are still getting points in the AP poll.

Seriously.

The good news is that all four of Pitt's points came from the same voter, which means 64 of the AP's 65 voters understand the Panthers belong nowhere close to a Top 25 ballot. The bad news is that one voter isn't quite as tuned in. Her name is Toni Ginnetti, and this might be the first time I've ever Poll Attacked a woman. (Insert joke here.) Honestly, it makes me a little uncomfortable. But how can she have Pitt ranked 22nd?

Pittsburgh has no good wins and four bad losses (on the road at Notre Dame and at home to Long Beach State, Wagner and Cincinnati), which means the Panthers are in the running for the nation's most disappointing team considering they were ranked 10th in the preseason. And yet Toni has them ranked 22nd. Which is silly. She also has Xavier ranked 18th. Which is also silly considering the Musketeers have dropped four of their past five games, including Saturday's home game to a Gonzaga team that is now 11-2 and ranked 25th but somehow unranked on Toni's ballot.

In summary, Toni is the only person giving Pitt and Xavier votes.

So she's smarter than everybody or completely unaware of what's happened the past two weeks.

The latter seems more likely.

But, either way, let's end this on a good note. Seems Toni just adopted the cutest dog in the world. I'm for stuff like that. So because she's so generous I promise to never Poll Attack her again ... as long as she gets Jamie Dixon's underachieving Panthers off her ballot by next Monday.

Coaches poll: Jeff Goodman and I ranked Indiana seventh in the Top 25 (and one).

Now for the question you're asking ...

Do we really believe there are just six teams better than Tom Crean's Hoosiers?

Answer: No.

But what do you do with a team that's 13-1 with no bad losses and wins over Kentucky and Ohio State? At some point you have to throw away what you think you know and just rely on the body of work, and IU's body of work is among the nation's best. Again, the Hoosiers are 13-1. The only loss is a loss at Michigan State, and Indiana actually led that game with less than nine minutes remaining. (Michigan State, by the way, is 13-2 with losses only to North Carolina and Duke. So, like I said, IU's loss at Michigan State is not a bad loss.) Meantime, the Hoosiers have wins over Kentucky, Ohio State and Butler. That's really good at this point in the season and why I can't understand the coaches ranking IU 12th.

Let's compare the Hoosiers' body of work to one team ranked ahead of them -- Louisville.

The Cards are 12-2.

They have zero wins over teams currently ranked.

They have a loss to the Kentucky team that IU has already topped.

And, if you're into this sort of thing, the Cards are nine spots behind Indiana at KenPom.com.

So how is Louisville ranked ahead of Indiana? And why is Indiana still outside of the top 10? If the Hoosiers are fraudelant, we'll find out soon enough and adjust accordingly. But for now, they probably belong in the top 10, and they definitely belong ahead of Louisville.

The Poll Attacks

Im not that sold on IU just yet.Yes they beat the #1 and #2 teams in the nation at the time but they also got beat up at Michigan State. They are most def worthy of a top 25 ranking though.Id like to see how they are at the end of January/begining of Febuary before i crown them top ten.

The Poll Attacks

Certain teams get a free ride all season every year. Duke is the biggest culprit.  This year it's obvious Louisville was overreted from week 2.  How 'bout Wisconsin? how are they still ranked? Look out for Vandy.  Ding Dong the witch is dead!

The Poll Attacks

Congrats to Indiana on an exceptional win over osu. Well done! Hopefully this will put to rest some of the gloom and doom posters from last week's Poll Attacks that were convinced that there was a conspiricy keeping IU out of the top 10. Obviously, that was not the case. IU just needed to score a second quality victory, and they sure did. If anybody cares to check last weeks PA, that TrollyMcTroll person was pretty dead on with their posts as it turns out.

I don't think it matters if IU is really a top ten team or not based on what we think.  They've done as much or more than any other team has on the court to earn and justify a top ten ranking.    I don't understand the lack of respect being shown towards their results by some.    Put them up there and the polls will sort themselves out as the year progresses as they always do.

Parrish, considering your discussion of rankings, I again must question your sanity.  You have ranked Toni's dog as the "cutest dog in the world".  What were you thinking?  The three legged factor makes it quite loveable, but my dog should be ranked at least 8 dogs above Toni's.  I think Ken Pomm would back me up on  this.

Good Poll Attack...I actually made the same comment on your top 25(and 1) article.  I am an IU fan and I am still not convinced they are a top 10 team, but based on who they have beat and who beathem they deserve to be in the top 10 and ahead of U of L for sure.  It is getting to the point in the season when you can no longer make your rankings based on how good you thought a team was or should be.  Rankings should be based on the actual outcomes of the games.

Example, I still think Ohio State is one of the top 3 teams in the country, but based on the outcomes of the played games, they do not deserve a top 3 ranking.

The Poll Attacks

Hey I love the Bills as much as the next guy, but they did lose on Saturday (although it was at The Pit, one of the hardest places to grab a win in college b-ball), so it makes a little sense that they didn't gain in the polls.  Bottom line is with a finish that should be no worse than 3rd in the A-10, coach Majerus will have SLU back in the dance this year, and they should be able to get a 6-9 seed and possibly pull off a first round victory.

The Poll Attacks

As a follower of St. Louis University basketball, it's disconcerting to me how they are falling in the AP and Coaches polls.  While not ranked in either, they were about 4 spots away last week in both and have fallen closer to 10 out this week, without losing.  I guess the A-10 season is here and they now have a chance to hopefully climb back in, after falling out weeks ago with their first and only loss, while beating teams like Villanova, Oklahoma, and Boston College.  To me, it just shows how little respect the A-10 gets as a league.

The Poll Attacks

Is it just me or is Doug Gottlieb becoming more annoying every year?? The Hoops world according to Gottlieb is so much different than reality, much less every poll out there. His upcoming draft board is a joke, his poll is a joke. He gives no credit whatsoever to any team that is playing good. He starts off "They do this well, that well, BUT . . . . ." FOR EVERY TEAM
