Syracuse big man Fab Melo to miss road trip

Top-ranked Syracuse will be without its starting center on its current road trip.

Sophomore big man Fab Melo didn't make the trip for Saturday's game at Notre Dame and also won't play Monday at Cincinnati.

Sources told CBSSports.com the reason is due to academics. Saturday's game marks the first contest since the second semester began. However, Syracuse is hoping to have Melo back for the Jan. 28 home game against West Virginia.

Melo is a key reason why the 20-0 Orange remain one of two undefeated teams left in the D-1 ranks and why the team has maintained the No. 1 ranking.

He is averaging 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season after struggling a year ago.

Syracuse also announced that Mookie Jones is transferring out of the program due to personal reasons. Jones only appeared in seven games this season.

This is why we probably lost yesterday against Nortre Dame, just like we did awhile back when in the March madness 2nd round when the other big-man wasn't playing due to "some" injury. If Fab's grades are down, get him some help. Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, and the entire division one level arena would. It's getting too late in the season now to play the bad-grade" card. We got to be strong and head-fast. We can do this Syracuse. "YOU DAMN WELL KNOW YOU CAN", so thats do it, lets-go-all-the-way. This is "OUR" time. Lets not allow "some other team" to take it away from us.

And furthermore, that was something I was told about back in the middle of December.

Can't say I'm shocked when I heard a story about Fab filling out a course evaluation at the end of the semester for a class he literally never attended.  Apparently he thought filling out the evaluation was "hard" and "like a test".  Yeah.

CowboysForever9, please refrain from lying. He attended classes, got behind in English and History and took incompletes. He can still pass, but unlikely to have a 2.0.
Unless he can do well on the finals he missed, he will be missing the whole semester.

Mookie is an underachiever and shouldn't even be on the team.  Hopefully Fab will get his sh__ together!

They are supposed to be STUDENTS FIRST and athletes scond . If you to participate on the court you must first fullsill you claaroom commitment .

Anyone else find the hilarity of a fan of a Calipari coached team making this comment?  The man is a bastion of following the NCAA's rules.
