Steve Fisher told the San Diego Tribune on Sunday that his team's chartered flight for tonight's game at Wyoming had the "potential to be a huge advantage." It was just the second charter in the program's history.

Turns out, it's just been a huge pain in the ass.

“Landed to get gas and now we’re stuck in the snow,” SDSU's Garrett Green Tweeted Monday. “Not looking good.”

Credit Green with an accurate assessment.

The 13th-ranked Aztecs left San Diego around 2:30 p.m. Monday and got stuck in Cedar City, Utah after they were grounded by a snowstorm while stopping to refuel.

"We tried to land and refuel in St. George, but the weather was so bad we had to land in Cedar City," San Diego State spokesman Darin Wong told CBSSports.com on Tuesday afternoon.

They checked-in at a Cedar City hotel, spent the night there and finally reached Laramie today around 1:30 p.m. ET after another stop to refuel, this one in Grand Junction, Colo. That was, as the San Diego Tribune's Mark Zeigler put it, about 20 hours after they left San Diego and just seven hours before their 8:30 p.m. ET tip at Wyoming's Arena-Auditorium.

"Our guys seem to be taking it in stride," Wong said. "Their spirits are high."

Wong said Fisher scrapped the team's scheduled shootaround, allowing the players to rest in their hotel room prior to the game. The team will get to the arena about 30 minutes before normal so the players can get up extra shots.

So are the Aztecs about to take their first MWC loss?

Man, I don't know.

But they've got an excuse if they do.

They were in a 19 seat twin. Not exactly a gulf stream. They tried to get farther but weather turned them back to Utah. They circled for awhile and could not get in. The next morning had to stop again in Colorado because they could not get it. It wasn't the distance it was that weather was so bad everywhere they could not land so they wasted a lot of fuel trying to get in places.

I don't subscribe to "The Mountain" channel, but most of the Aztecs bigger games will be televised.  If you can't watch, listen online to ol' Ted.

This should be the Tecs seventh or eight straight 20-win season, and most likely third straight tournament team.  Since I'm on the East Coast, NOBODY but hard core college hoops fans realize San Diego State has a national program that possibly surpasses any in the Pac-12, WAC, or Big West, including Cal (beat'em), Arizona (beat'em), and USC (beat'em).

This year's team is actually tougher than last year's despite losing our top four scorers.  Amazing.  Coach Fisher could get consecutive National Coach of the Year.  I mean, there's no limit for The Show, now that we've purged the poison of association with BYU.  No kidding.  San Diego State is liberated, and playing like no one's business.  No predictions, but we fans certainly will consider another Sweet 16 appearance as "No Big Deal."

What type of plane were they using for the charter?  It's less then 500 miles from San Diego to Cedar City, and only a couple of hundred miles from Cedar City to Grand Junction.  My gas guzzling SUV can make that trip in less fuel stops than it too them to fly.

As to the prior comments, I'm not sure who Ennis is referring to, but one of Wyoming's best ever basketball player was named Fenis....Fenis Dembo.

One big advantage of leaving the MWC, Wyoming is a nightmare to travel to in the winter.  One thing that is
great about the Aztecs is that their defense shows up to every game, except for that Creigton disaster where they
were up by 17 and let it slip away.  Looking back on it, probably a good loss because the team became very focused
after that game.  Interesting how all these teams say they have a bad shooting night when they play SDSU.  Wonder Why?
Defense is key.
