College of Charleston coach Bobby Cremins is taking a leave of absence effective immediately because of non-life threatening health problems, the Charleston Post and Courier reported Friday. According to the report, it's unclear whether Cremins will take an extended leave of absence or eventually resign.
Assistant coach Mark Byington will serve as head coach in Cremin's absense.
Cremins is 64 years old.
He's been at Charleston six seasons.
He's best known for coaching Georgia Tech to the 1990 Final Four.

Report: Cremins taking leave of absenceI was fortunate enough to meet coach Cremins a few years back. He was playing in in Bob Huggins golf outing at the course I work at in N. KY. Lots of celebs there and mostly very pleasant. To my surprise Sir Charles was very nice. Sterling Sharpe was extremely pleasant. But the man I remeber as the best of the bunch, Bobby Cremins. Just a really, really nice man. Coach, best of luck to you. Get Well and many more years of success to you.

Report: Cremins taking leave of absenceIt's a little sad to see the coaches we have known for so long, to start having health problems - which in some cases are related to age and maybe job stress.
I used to enjoy watching his teams at Ga Tech. Don't see as much of him on tv these days. Maybe after the way things turned out with JoePa, we are all a little more concerned about how things should be handled. Take care Bobby. |
