The Murray State song/vid you weren't waiting for

By Matt Norlander

Thanks to a rap video/anthem that is largely void of any sense of irony and goes on for three minutes longer than it should, it's safe to say Murray State has officially arrived.

Titled, "Murray State Anthem," the rap tune and video completely disembodies a lot of what Murray State basketball represents: slanted rhymes; half-interested players standing around on the gym floor; arrogant mascots; part-time frat boys/full-time white rappers; and Dick Vitale references.

Trubz 'N' Matlock, which is surely just nicknames for two dudes named Tristan and Matthew, have given the Murray State community a rallying cry. Let us all join in. Murray State Rrray-sirs!

If Murray State winds up losing its next game, our answer is already known.

I'll be honest, saw Murray State Anthem and thought it would be another one of those awful Party Rock Anthem renditions. Nice change of pace though.

F the haters thats a good video.  Not sure how they got the college board looking fellows to get up and start dancing while they get up on the table.  Go Murray State!

Halfway decent to pretty good.

One day if they say their prayers and take their vitamins, these little Hulkamaniacs might put somehting together that is actually dope.  Good try though.  Oh yeah, I really do like that Murray State team. As a fan of a mid-major, I really hope these guys take a name or two come madness.

The rap video however,...could use some work.

Who is Matt Norlander?! What a CLOWN !!

Dear Matt Norlander,
I would like to forgive you for writing quite possibly the most rediculous article I've seen this year on this website. I am a proud Kentuckian, born in Lexington and a lifetime UK fan. Not only is the entire state proud of Murray but all underdog fans in the country are, and should be pulling for Murray, currently including UK FANS such as myself!! No time to compare the 2 because they dont play regular season!! Murray State officially arrived sometime ago and through reading other articles on this story I am aware, unlike you, that this song was written by those guys before the season even started to show their spirit and support for the school and the Team.  Im a middle aged man that hates rap and I love every second of this. Not only did those guys write a 'rap' song with clean lyrics for the kids, they were obviously embraced by an awesome administration at their school and made the most of an amazing and lucky situation for the Team also to be undefeated.  I bet Murray State is a great place to be right now and I also bet you've never been. That's the President of the school throwing the bag of popcorn in the above caption. Im pretty sure he approves. He's a pretty smart guy Im guessing, so do your research next time you try to bash an all around POSITIVE situation.  Embrace the RACERS and respect their EFFORTS.  You my friend, Matt Norlander, are what those guys doin all that rappin stuff would like to call a "HATER"!! Much love to the younger generation, Keep it up!! hope racers go big!

UK FAN / PROUD of the RACERS / PROUD KENTUCKIAN

We are RACERS. We Are Proud To Be a Racer. Thanks for the concern, but I do not see you trashing any other college with a song. Such as Indiana University, Oregon University, or for this matter any other team. I am currently a freshman at Murray State. I am more than proud to be a Racer. We are undefeated. ANY team would make a music video/anthem if their team was undefeated. If our team was "lazy" would we be the only undefeated team in this NATION and in the top 10. Our players have worked very hard to achieve such an extensive goal. They deserve some respect. However we are not sorry we are proud of our undefeated team, amazing academics, and a perfect community. Pretty sure if our president didn't approve of the video, then why would he be in it, even approve of it to play at our recent game against Eastern Illinois University in which we defeated with respect. We have a strong team, and for once when we are at the top, we are the only school getting dissed. With all due respect being "arrogant" can go both ways my friends and trashing a team's spirit.

Haters gonna hate ...

Here's another song to hate, from a (somewhat) local radio station:

Does Norlander's work pass as journalism ANYWHERE?
