2009 Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper Sucks Thread

REALLY!!! Are we that well off that we're drafting projects in the 3rd round now. This pick at this time makes me sick.

Timmons 1st round LB pick - Did he start?  no - he barely played - had previous naggin injuries - started showing up on ST first.. In the second year.  He gave us nothng year one and was a first round pick...

Woodley 2nd round LB - Did he start?  No - He shined on ST his first year...  then the 2nd and 3rd - made his mark.

I expect the same from Spence - we will know shortly if the kid was a good pick or not - If you watch ST this year and he starts showing up where the ball is..  I think he's got a lot of promise..  too early to get sick over a 3rd round pick - Especially at LB.

Do I have to break out my old bull/young bull story?

I'll be busy all day, but I'll have my NFL Draft app on my smartphone to keep me updated. 

Here are some possibilities...

40, 50, 60, 63, 65, 81, 84, 92, 99, 100, 137, 153, 166

I'm not sure why 153 is so low-- I must have missed discussion on him.  Are there red flags?  I think he's a good mid/late-round developmental.

personally - I dont like 153 too much at all..  Showed me nothing in the post bowl game...   50 or 137 for me if we go NT - We could go DT too at some point..  Round 4 - Me thinking skill player....

58 is going to be a very good player for someone..     Like him  alot...

I guess he was saying Spence would be used only on passing downs to cover a TE.  Instead of using an extra DB they would use him.

LeBeau has never done that. He likes 3-down guys and occasionally they will take one off and use a 3rd safety - something they did last year. There is really no place in the NFL for a "nickel LB". Nickel LB / edge rusher? Sure, we've seen a lot of that but no one brings a LB just to be a cover guy. If that's your plan then you do it with a guy like Cortez Allen who has size but can cover TEs and slot WRs. It worked very well against the Cheatriots - Gronk caught some balls but he got zero YAC.

I really don't get the uproar with Spence. I love to speculate and project as much as anyone but if Keith Butler says he can play inside I'm going to take his word for it and there are guys all over the league having success at his size or smaller (London Fletcher).

My God their just kind of creeping their way around how horrible their defensive picks have been in recent years.

And I'm with Beach, since knowing Spence is now a middle linebacker I like the pick. The guy has the instincts, you can't teach that.

Watch that entire Youtube video and see how many plays this guy made in the backfield. You can't teach instincts, you can't teach football intelligence. I know I've said it a hundred times now but he couldn't be anymore like London Fletcher - who coincidentally didn't see the field his rookie year.
