So, who did we miss on? Who would have been the pick at #22 that would make everyone happier than Weeden?
Cordy Glenn comes to mind.

Look, I don't have a problem with the Weeden pick.  Just don't think it had to happen at #22.

I don't even think his age is problem.  Steve Young didn't start for the 49ers until he was 31.  (And, he had a few years of abuse behind him with the NFL's Bucanneers and the USFL's Los Angeles Express.)

Obviously, the Browns front office has confidence in the picks chosen.  Richardson at #3 was a planned maneuver that tells me they're really planning to build around him.

When looking at the quarterback position, I see a team having seen the light and realizing that who is here isn't here for long.  They watched for three years and didn't see where Colt was going any further  than where he has already.  So the BROWNS saw two confusing scenarios:  (1) a pitcher masquerading as a quarterback, or a quarterback who thought he was a pitcher  and  (2) a quarterback not having confidence as a quarterback so he opted as a wide receiver, or a wide receiver who was masquerading as a quarterback.  Either way, they figured they couldn’t let the remaining quarterback to slip into the enemy’s hands.

I’m just glad they didn’t opt for trading-down…that always is a signal of indecisiveness.  I applaud them for taking the direct route so far…no matter their choices.

How did we miss on Cordy Glenn? He is still available...

We are only 5 picks away and the Rams are reportedly taking Reuben Randle, the Colts are reportedly high on Fleener...

That leaves the Ravens and Broncos to take Glenn away from us...I would be more worried about the Ravens taking Hill away than Glenn.

The Broncos O-line is one of the best in the NFL...

So you will probably have your wish if that is who you would have taken at #22...

getting ready to head out to sling some Ohio dirt . gonna be a little chilly tonight but no big deal .

when i get in the car after racing and turn on my radio i hope to hear that the Browns got some WR help first .

i think there intent is to slide Pinkston who has worked his tail off this off season to  RT then move Greco into the LG slot .

they still need to draft a linemen but i feel that we need WR worse .like a couple of them . that postion should be the top target tonight In my humble opinion !

i still have my Foam Browns brick handy .if i dont see a WR picked i will toss it along with a few words i cant say on here Foot in mouth

I'm already tired of hearing about Weeden's age....Kurt Warner got his start in the NFL at the same age!  Enough already.....If anything, given the Browns situiation, I think him being a little more mature can only help....

They have already stated Pinkston is a guard and doing a nice job at that position. the only thing I see changing other than drafting a RT is if Stenbach somehow finds his way back on the roster and Eric moving to the right side to take over for Lauvao..

Why are all of my messages going to PMs???

You know who else got a late start TD?

A man by the name of Roger Staubach who served in the Navy admirably started his Hall of Fame NFL career at the age of 27.

He only played for 10 years in the NFL, but had 9 winning seasons in that time span...

TGIF Lounge Hounds....

Nothing can get this smile off my face today!  Can't wait to see what happens this evening...
I believe yesterday was the most successful day the Browns have had since their return in 99....

Holmgren and Heckert are on fire!

Bark Loud and Proud TD!

I find that I don’t feel like it today.  For some reason I’d rather just curl up on the porch.

That said, I applaud them for finally growing a set and getting aggressive in this draft.  The trade up with the Vikings ensured that they got the player they wanted and, more importantly, prevented some other team from doing the same.  Using the 4th round pick from Atlanta softened the price to jump one spot a bit.

I agree that this was a good move for the Browns to secure their franchise RB of the future.  The move really didn’t cost the Browns.  If H&H didn’t the Bucs would have.

I agree.   great day for the Browns.  Sorry for those who believed the "hot air" they spewing about "believing in McCoy"...H&H were just doing their jobs...  Colt doesn't have it. They knew it.

No need to say sorry for this...
You hit the nail on the head and as "one of those believers" I am happy that they did it now rather than sitting through another season with him as the QB if they didn't have faith in him. The learned their lesson on waiting with Mangini

Agreed Irish,

I’ve been a fan of McCoy since he was at Texas…  I guess I was wrong…

I’ll take plenty of hot sauce w/ that crow TD, and a nice porter to wash it downWink

While they may not care about what McCoy thinks if he’s now going to be displaced (and possibly traded or cut), there are other guys in the locker room who may now be less inclined to trust the coaching staff and/or the front office.

This is what concerns me the most.  If the element of trust, and teamwork doesn’t exist between the FO, Coaches, and Players this “new” Browns franchise is forever doomed.

Weeden . . . I hope he's as good as all of the self-annointed experts here think he is.  However, IMO, picking him at 22 was a reach.  I have to think he would have been there at 37 meaning we wiffed at the ability to score some WR or OL talent at 22Look, I don't have a problem with the Weeden pick.  Just don't think it had to happen at #22.

Agreed, I too don’t really have a problem w/ selecting a QB or which one they chose.  I just don’t like where the guy was taken.

I just hope he doesn’t flame out like every other first round QB the Browns have selected since 1999Sealed.

So, who did we miss on? Who would have been the pick at #22 that would make everyone happier than Weeden?

Riley Reiff, Whitney Mercilus, Nick Perry

I would rather they take the BPA instead of reaching for a QB, but then what do I know.

This is one guy I am hoping to hear the Browns selected by the end of the draft.

Elvis Akpla Montana State:          REC       YDS        YD/REC     TDs
                      2011 Stats          63      1145       18.2        11
                      UM vs MSU           6        113       18.2         1

Has good speed.   Catches anything…

Trumain Johnson CB, Montana couldn't cover this guy 1-1...

getting ready to head out to sling some Ohio dirt . gonna be a little chilly tonight but no big deal.

Have fun Bluez…  I’ve got another month to wait before they start up around here.

Have a good weekend all...

Irish, obviously were not on the same page, but just because they didn't take Tannehill doesn't mean he wasn't in top 10.  Mayb their board read Luck, RG3, Richardson, Claiborne, Blackmon, Floyd, Weeden, Tannehill etc, etc, etc.  Therefore ur wrong and have no idea where he was ranked.

Do you know what brings about trust in a coaching staff? Identifying players that are part of the problem and not the solution and replacing them with players that take you from a 13 point per game offense to a 22 point per game offense.Wink

These guys are part fraternity, I agree, but no one in that locker room wants to play Madden with their teammate more than win football games. I think they are sick of losing just as much as the fans are.

Drafting two guys like they did last night goes a long way towards building the trust in this front office...

These guys as starters in college over the last 2 years were 35-3...add Richardson's year as backup and they are 45-6...

Weeden knows how to win, but doesn't seem to have injury concerns like Colt did...

We will see, but the future is looking up imho.

It is pretty simple stopper,

1) If you have a Quarterback ranked in the top ten overall, you have him pegged as a franchise QB. There are very few franchise QBs in the entire NFL, let alone a draft.
2) The ever elusive franchise QB is also BY FAR the most important position known to the NFL franchise, hands down, not even close.

3) If you are in need of one(which the Browns obviously were looking for one, having taken a QB in the first round), then you take him at all cost. I.E. offer (3) first round draft picks to move up in the draft to get him.

4) Doesn't matter what order you have him ranked on a piece of paper, you may only get one shot at getting this franchise guy in your tenure as a coach/GM/President...You move him to the top of the list and draft him.

None of the above happened in pertaining to Ryan Tannehil, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they didn't have him ranked in the top ten of this draft.

...now with that in mind, I am not arguing that they may not have had him rated ahead of Brandon Weeden. If they felt Weeden was a sure fire franchise guy, he would have been the pick at #4. However, it was pretty obvious that he would be available at #22. The difference between Weeden and Tannehill was obviously small enough that they would rather get the franchise RB, just in case their plan at QB doesn't pan out too well. This way they are at the very least improving the offense from the rushing perspective.

My only argument was u said there was no way the Browns had Tannehill in their top 10.....w my above post it could have been just like that where Weeden was ahead of Tannehill but he was still top 10.  U and I both don't have a clue about their top 10, but I have a source w NE org that thinks the Browns FO is pretty much a joke.
