Medical Watch? Should be DP TV! But the good news, he says he will be ready by training camp!

Here's hoping he breaks an arm or his wrist opening a bottle of Coke sometime in late August. I know 90 yr old women with dust for bones thart are tougher than DP. Got to wonder if he was taking any HGH or juice and is why he is breaking down like a 1970 Dodge Dart in the Mohabi!

Well atleast Nabby is signed for one more year, by then Nilsson and the Poulin Wall will be ready to move from Bridgeport to the Island, then to Quebec.

Dumba in 15 days? I actually have a feeling they will go after Reinhart, Ceci or Forsberg........Much like last year know one thought Strome would be an Islander.

so you feel like taking on the more educated, wiser adults? good for you son!

OK then, so I dont mean to be funny, i'm just wondering how old you were in your av baby pic cause you look so adorable. if its not your baby pic, then please feel free to explain what the pic is. you obviously felt a need and purpose to set it as your av. so whats the story behind the pic??? (this is going to be good!)

so you put down NYers and rednecks. hmmm. thats interesting. you must be something else to be so judgemental. or at least you greatly overestimate yourself, which is much more likely. wherever youre from, youre an idiot. i'm sure there are much better people from that area.

youre lucky i'm even engaging you on this thread. you dont seem to have much of an IQ. youre close to losing your privelages. so take in all you can while it lasts. i'm not into explaining things if you just dont get it. thats boring for me.

lastly, I dont think you could keep yourself away from this thread if your life depended on it.

racecar, your nonsense is confusing. maybe after writing something you could double check it to see if it makes sense. never once did i put down NYers, had you read the post and could understand adult-people, you might know that.

no doubt that there are better people from my area, not sure why you would ever think otherwise. nice name calling though, clearly you're not in your 40s. good luck w/ summer camp. is this the part where you tell me you would beat me up? i hope so, i love the cyber tough guy in you.

hmmmm. would love for you to explain this one. please use a fine tooth comb and point out any example of depressed/annoyed/confused from any of my previous posts. let me take that back, i'm always confused from your posts, not unique to me though. very happy for you that you spelled those big words correctly though, maybe you should show your teacher. i'm also trying to figure out what isht was kicked back in my face.

What's wrong with Bath Salts? Some people can handle them and mix it with their blue And Orange Kool-aid and spew delusional facts, pipe dreams and tidbits about the once "MODEL FRANCHISE" of the NHL, while others get naked and tie up homeless peole and eat their face.

As for the Isles D, agree so many better options out there than Eaton, Mottau, Jurcina and Reasoner for that matter, tho I believe he still has another year.

Keep an eye on Andrey Pedan:

The Islanders third round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, didn’t take much of a vacation after his junior team, the Guelph Storm, was eliminated in six games from the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs. The Kauanas, Lithuania native is already back at the gym, working hard to make his dream of playing in the NHL a reality.

At 6’4”, 205-pounds, one might think that size is the least of Pedan’s concerns, but as Eric Cairns, a former Islander and current member of the Islanders Player Development staff pointed out, Pedan’s next step is to develop his physical game.

“We’re looking for him to get bigger and stronger and I don’t question that Andrey’s ever not going to work hard,” Cairns said. “I trust him. I believe he’s going to work hard.”

In his first season with Guelph in 2010-11, Pedan put up 12 points in 51 games. The following year, Pedan improved on that figure remarkably as his comfort level increased and he took on a greater role with the Storm. During his second OHL campaign, Pedan tallied 10 goals and added 30 assists for 40 points, ranking second among team defensemen in scoring. Pedan’s physical side also showed on the score sheet, as he compiled a team leading 152 penalty minutes.

“I felt more comfortable in the dressing room and maybe it was the same on the ice,” Pedan said of his second season in North America. “The first year I was kind of adjusting to the different rink, different hockey and the next year I came and was ready for everything. The first year some stuff I wouldn’t understand and the next year I was prepared for that.”

Pedan even felt a major improvement in his second season off the ice and in the locker room.

“I think I became a leader in the dressing room,” Pedan said. “I can say something to my teammates to help them.”

Pedan moved from Lithuania to Moscow, Russia at a young age and spent most of his youth there. After turning 16, Pedan, his family and his agent faced the decision of whether he should move to North America to play Canadian Junior Hockey, or continue to develop in Russia. Factoring in the towering defenseman’s physical style of play, Pedan’s agent suggested that the North American system might better facilitate his development. Pedan ended up in the OHL when he was selected by Guelph with the 32nd overall pick in the 2010 CHL Import Draft.

Sixteen-year NHL veteran and current Guelph Storm head coach Scott Walker believes Pedan is the kind of player with a future in the NHL.

Andrey can keep up with the smaller, faster forwards. At the end of that he can punish them off with a powerful, physical check. - Eric Cairns, Islanders Player Development

“I see a guy that can play a lot of minutes and be a big factor,” Walker said. “He can play a physical game. He’s an intimidating defenseman, but with a big shot from the point.”

Pedan won’t turn 20 until July, 2013, leaving him ineligible to begin next season with the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He will instead try to earn a spot on the Islanders at training camp, but will likely end up in Guelph for a third campaign, where Walker believes he will be a huge factor.

“We’re definitely going to lean on him a lot,” Walker said. “He’s going to be a number one or two defenseman and play a lot.”

That experience with Guelph should serve Pedan well, as he grows even more comfortable with the North American style of play before joining the pro ranks with the Islanders.

“For a big defenseman to be able to move the way he can move, it can separate him from a bigger defenseman who doesn’t have the same mobility who is a little bit slower,” Cairns said. “Andrey can keep up with the smaller, faster forwards. At the end of that he can punish them off with a powerful, physical check.”

Although Guelph has exited the OHL playoffs in the first round in each of Pedan’s first two years with the Storm, the 18-year-old has really shined in the playoffs. During his first postseason, Pedan tallied eight assists in just six games. This past postseason Pedan scored a goal and three assists in six games.

“I think the season is important, but all hockey starts in the playoffs,” Pedan said. “It’s do or die hockey. I didn’t try to do more, just tried to keep it simple. I don’t know what happened in the playoffs, but I feel way better in the playoffs.”

That’s good news for the Islanders, who will look for Pedan to join their up-and-coming roster as it hits its stride in the next few years.

June 8, 2012 12:07 pm

Here's a good article about that "C" Kate Murray and the Isles Arena DEBACLE!

If the sarcastic title wasn’t enough to get the point across, then by now Islanders fans could have realized that this article was not meant to paint the rosiest of pictures for the team’s arena situation in Nassau County. Earlier in May, Kate Murray left little room open for interpretation when speaking about the Islanders, but with the reelection campaign about to start for Team Murray it seems that the politician has backtracked on some of her words and suddenly empathizes with the plight of the team and its fans.

For the last several years, there have been many musings as to what the team will do once its lease expires in 2015. Some destinations of interest that have been mentioned have included the likes of Quebec, Seattle, and Brooklyn, but it seems as though Nassau County is becoming less of an option for the Isles as the months pass by. Town of Hempstead supervisor Kate Murray might not be at liberty to discuss the financial situation of Nassau County, but her attempts to convince Islanders fans that she wants the team to stay on Long Island are futile to say the least.

Back when Charles Wang proposed the Lighthouse Project to the Town of Hempstead, Kate Murray and fellow politicians believed that the design was “too grandiose” for the town. After taking an extended amount of time to come up with the zoning for the area around the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Kate Murray proposed a scaled down version of the Lighthouse Project that would have made it extremely difficult for Charles Wang to build an arena. While there has been some recent talk regarding the Isles’ arena situation and Gary Bettman’s visit to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Kate Murray made some headlines of her own by trying to profess her “want” for the Isles’ stay in Nassau County. However, just a month ago Murray was singing a different tune as she stated, “These are low days for the NHL, with the Rangers, it’s exciting”. Islanders fans have long been used to the quips thrown their way over the last two decades, but Murray’s attempt to assuage fans before her reelection campaign is quite transparent.

Murray’s most recent comments regarding Long Island’s only professional sports franchise were made available through Newsday desk reporter Patrick Whittle, who tweeted the following:

Ever since Charles Wang’s Lighthouse Project was rejected, Kate Murray’s attitude towards the Islanders and their arena situation was one of mere indifference, which makes her mention of “our Islanders” a bit perplexing to Isles fans. The type of sentiment that Murray eschewed for the Islanders through her most recent comments were not apparent after the Lighthouse Project was voted down and Islanders fans were left wondering where their team would end up past 2015.

So, the question beckons. Why would Kate Murray suddenly be waving the welcome flag for a team that she had shown a general disregard for just a month ago?

Well, the answer might be very simple as Team Murray will be up for reelection in a few months. One of the most pressing issues regarding the Town of Hempstead and Kate Murray’s reign as the town’s supervisor will undoubtedly be the interest that the 71-acre area around Nassau Coliseum has garnered from potential developers. Murray has stated that there have been casual talks among developers and what they want to do with the land around the Coliseum, but there have not been any indications that these potential developers would include the arena as part of their development plan.

Murray even went a bit further in her self-absolution as she stated the following through Patrick Whittle:

"The bottom line that Kate Murray and the board blocked the Islanders, that is absolutely inaccurate," she said. <script charset="utf-8" type="text/javascript" src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>

While it could be easy to believe that Murray is just one politician that only has a certain amount of sway in Nassau County, it would be foolhardy to believe that Murray didn’t play a role in the demise of the Lighthouse Project. Charles B. Wang, who is a long time native of Long Island, had a vision for Hempstead and the Islanders when he proposed the beautification of the sea of concrete surrounding Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. However, Kate Murray was among the people that believed that Wang’s vision was “not sustainable” and the zoning plan that she submitted in 2010 cut Wang’s Lighthouse proposal in half and ultimately left the owner with an economically unviable plan for the area around the arena.

Kate Murray failed to illustrate the same type of sympathy for the Isles’ arena situation in the past few years and hasn’t really done much petitioning on behalf of the Islanders to warrant a belief in her recent sentiments toward the franchise’s plight. So far, the only thing that one can deduce from Kate Murray’s comments is that there have not been any new developments in Nassau County regarding the long-term stay of the New York Islanders. The only thing that has been made apparent to Islanders fans is the fact that Nassau County is becoming a bleaker option as the days pass and the politicians keep their lips sealed.

It might be common knowledge that Nassau County is in bad financial shape and could ill afford to have its residents foot the bill on a new arena or a redevelopment project around the Nassau Coliseum, but there is no reason to beat around the bush and give fans hope if Nassau County can’t possibly support the stay of the Islanders. All hope may not be lost, but if Nassau County and its politicians keep giving the same cursory progress reports on the situation, then Islanders fans and the hockey world can only assume that the team’s time in Long Island is running thin.

FU KATE MURRAY YOU WILL NEVER GET MY VOTE, choke on a ham sandwich already! PIG AT THE TROUGH!

Got a question on the latest news and rumours? E-mail Hockey Insider Darren Dreger and he'll answer your emails at
dregereport@tsn.ca!

Hey Darren,

Awesome job and greetings from NYC. Do you see the Islanders making a splash either on draft day or chasing some free agents? They have so far to go to get to the cap floor that they are going to have to do something don't they?

Ryan Murray with the No. 4 pick?

Thanks and keep up the great work.

A: Garth Snow has a track record for wheeling and dealing at the draft and I suspect he will consider anything thrown his way in the next couple of weeks.

The Islanders, like all NHL teams, are eager to see what the collective bargaining agreement is going to look like. A new CBA may help guide them, but the Isles will have to comply with whatever the structure of the salary cap is. However, without a new building and the ongoing speculation over the future of the franchise, selling free agents on the merits of moving to Long Island is a very difficult challenge.

The Isles are a good, young team that isn't far from being a very good team, but the uncertainty that plagues this organization definitely impacts the on-ice product.

Jason Garrison (D) has transformed into a blue line scorer with a heavy shot, 27 years old, perfect age for the Isles, 6'2" 218, good size, would be a great compliment with Hamonic.

Joe Corvo (D), Tim Gleason (D) or Bryan Allen (D) and maybe Rozsival.........I have faith in Garth!
