All depends on what it takes to move up, not sure it's worth the picks or prospects and god forbid the he doesn't workout for whatever reason, and the picks and guys given away become palyers or even worse Stars. Stand th ecourse and take Dumba!

i havent seen much of Dumba but he sounds like he is going to be a great player.

gotta think that he falls to #4 easily. Murray, Yakupov, and one of the two russians will go in the top 3.

Islanders will pick up a good player.

Hey ball licker! Well when you win as many Cups as the Islanders this year, enjoy drafting like 27th!

Dumba may not be ready this year, but he will have the better career over Murray.

Henderson I am hearing that Forsbergs stock is rising as well, so maybe the Isles trade down and still get Dumba? Or go after Trouba, Reinhart or Ceci.

Either way the Isles should get a top 4 d man from this draft, Defense Loaded in the Top 10.

holydiver,

im not sold on forsberg. he has played in a 2nd rate swedish league so no one really knows much about his game versus north american level players.

seems like a bit of a Wild card so i think a lot of teams might stay away from him. there is also talk that the gringenko (spelling?) got a lot of interest from some KHL teams so his stock might fall.

this stuff always happens, but i would be SHOCKED to see both Murray and Dumba gone in the top 3.

There is always a risk of the russians heading to the KHL to cash out. I think that Nail Yakupov would want to prove that he can play in the best league on the planet. Grigorenko looked great at times , but disappears as well. Yakupov can skate, pass, score, hit, and mix it up. You pretty much notice him foe every shift he takes (kind of like OV when he first broke into the league).
I too would be shocked to see Murray and Dumba go by #3. The Habs need a centerman bad. Not really sure what CBJ is going to do though. For the first time in a long time , there really isn't a slam dunk top pick, as there are at least 3 or 4 worthy candidates of going in any order of the top 4. It should be interesting.

yea i think the russian factor is there, but only to an extent. guys like grigorenko and yakupov have played in NA in the CHL. It isn't like they are in Russia right now playing. I know there have been rumors of Staal to CAR that would bring us the 8th pick+. I hope Grigorenko falls to #8. it would be possible. also Burke will make a play for Staal so we might end up with #5.

this draft doesn't seem to excite people outside of 4-5 guys. weak draft, shame the Penguins had to underachieve this season.

I don't completely agree with this.. It's really a defenseman's draft. There are  some solid defensemen there for the taking. I would really say there are about 12 -15 solid picks in the draft. Not a lot on the offensive side.
On a side note... What are your thoughts of Staal to the Habs ?? Its a good fit, i think..

KHL and the Russians scare the Islander Fan, after the Yashin Mess and to a lesser extent, but CO$TLY, Kvasha! My buddy while out on furlow from the Electrical Union, found Kvasha listed in the phone book, that tells you two things: 1) my buddy needs a life or at best a real hobby. 2) Kvasha is as clueless as lazy!

Strome Right on Track

Islanders' Prospect Ready for Next Step

Wednesday, 05.16.2012 / 6:17 PM / News By Travis Betts

Islanders prospect Ryan Strome is taking all the right steps to get to the National Hockey League.

The Islanders selected the Mississauga, ON, native with the fifth overall selection in the 2011 NHL Draft, following his sophomore campaign with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League. Strome finished that season ranked third in the league with 73 assists and 106 points.

Strome, who turned 18 last summer, participated in Islanders training camp, and remained with the team after the final round of cuts. The Islanders, whose farm system was ranked no. 3 in the league by Hockey’s Future, decided to keep their top prospect with the team for two games to get a taste of the NHL before returning him to Niagara. Despite facing what many players would consider a demotion, Strome viewed it as an opportunity to improve his entire game.

“I wanted to become more of a two-way player and become more of a leader on my team and work on my all-around game, and I think I did that,” Strome said, at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season. “I feel like I’m a much more well-rounded player.”

Strome was able to do so without sacrificing his offensive game. The 6’0”, 183-pound center started his third year of major junior competition with a hat trick against Belleville and strung together a 13-game scoring streak (11 goals, nine assists) to begin the season. Strome’s Niagara teammate and fellow Islanders prospect Mitchell Theoret, believes Strome’s time in the NHL gave him a boost.

“When Ryan came back, he was more focused,” Theoret said. “You could see he had more of a pro mindset. The way he came to the rink every morning and did his workouts, it was very professional. For him, it was just all toward making the Islanders next season.”

Strome represented Canada in the World Junior Championship tournament in December and January, contributing three goals and six assists in six games and leading the Canadians to a bronze medal. Back with his club team, on March 12 Strome registered four assists in a 10-3 rout of Belleville, and followed that with a five-goal, one-assist effort the next night against Erie.

When asked about it, Strome downplays his gaudy numbers, focusing instead on his attempts to be a multi-faceted player.

“I just want to go out there and do the best for my team, whether it’s setting up guys or scoring goals,” Strome said. “If I have a playmaker on my line, I think I can be a scorer, but if I have a scorer, I can be a playmaker.”

Theoret, the Islanders 7th round pick in 2011, was less shy about Strome’s ability to produce offensively.

“He’s just a natural talent,” Theoret said. “He’s great with the puck. He’s a great skater and he’s a great playmaker. He has vision that is second to none. He’s just a special kind of talent and that’s hard to come by.”

After scoring 30 goals and 38 assists this season, Strome helped lead the IceDogs to the best record in the OHL’s Eastern Conference and eventually a trip to the OHL Championship against the London Knights. While Niagara lost the final series in five games, Strome posted 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 20 post-season games.

After such a productive season in juniors, Strome has his focus on training and getting in the best possible shape for next season – maybe in the NHL.

“I just want to give myself the absolute best chance I can to make the Islanders,” Strome said. “I want to make it hard for them to send me back, if that’s what they’re going to do. I’ve just got to come in now and play the best I can.”
