2009 Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper Sucks Thread

Am I the only one who would take a stab at signing Burfict as an undrafted free agent?  I doubt he gets drafted at this point, so if he's a free agent, I'd toss a contract his way and bring him to camp.  Why not?  If he flunks out, what's the harm?

In that case, yes, because they don't have a limit. He sounds like a PFA. He may be undraftable but certainly worth the risk as an undrafted guy.

I don't think ManO is giving a bad idea. Doesn't cost anything to bring him in as a UDFA and he can be immediately cut for some other fodder if he blows it.

Rules for watching the draft on ESPN.

1. Put on some chest waders and get a good quality coal shovel, you never know how high they will pile it. You need an escape plan.
2. Get 3 remotes and MUTE the sound, then put duct tape over the infraded scanner in case the volume gets accidently touched.
3. Wear tinted glasses when McShart is on, thet orange skin may blind you.
4. Don't stare directly at Smell Diaper, those beady eyes will drain the intelegence right out of your brain.
5. Chris Sperman will say something really stupid, at least twice, try and updated us, you did take lip reading right?
6. Laugh hard and loud at the Kipers BPA scrolling at the bottom of the tv once you get past pick 15. and that same player is on the board for hours as NFL GM's pass on his cannot miss prospect. Cough Jimmy Clausen, cough.
7. Have a tv brick every time Kiper describes a players height in quarter inches whip it at his fhugly face.
8. Be prepared for a meatstick, not sure what Steve Young knows about the draft, but I am sure my postman knows more.
9. Count how many times they continue to discuss picks of the Patriots and Cowbyoys and ignore who is on the clock or who the Steelers selected.
10. Every time they call Bill Belichick a draft genius, have a new barf bag handy, two for when they discuss Tom Brady in the 6th.

Wow according to Mayock DeCastro goes 21st to Bengals and Glenn, Hightower and Poe are all available at 24.

I am probably not posting much until 4 pm tomorrow, have to get out of work and get home for Christmas.

Personally, I feel like I'm missing out by not seeing the ESPN broadcast as well.

When you're not FORCED to watch it as your only option, it can be highly entertaining in small doses during some of the slow moments on NFL Network. 

A little comic relief, if you will.

I'm serious, though.  Its not like the Steelers have a history of shying away from character risks as UFAs or late round picks.  Of course they would never touch the kid with a prime pick, but what's wrong with bringing him to camp and seeing if he turns a corner working with guys like Harrison, Woodley and Timmons?  He obviously had some talent to garner such attention a year ago.

If he behaves himself and looks to have promise, you keep him on the PS for a year or two and see what happens.  If he's an idiot, you cut him.  With a 90 man roster limit, there's really nothing to lose, is there?

Im still part of the crazy club that would actually use a late round pick on him. i wont be the least bit surprised if someone takes him in the third btw.

BB I just read that and I have to agree with Bouchette. He has nailed the Steelers top pick the last few years, so it would make sense. ILB is a major need for them, he fits the role well and the position has VERY few players to pick from. Further, Poe is interesting but I have to agree his tape is weak. Plus I am pretty sure someone grabs him early. Zeitler is good, but a good guard will be there in round two so there is no need to rush. Unless someone they have been salivating over falls into there lap (and there WILL be some craziness happening) they will probably grab Hightower.

If I could change my pick in Jackal's challenge I'd change it to Amini Silatolu. The more I think about it the more I think he could be the guy at #24. He's just plain mean and nasty and he has unlimited upside. He could play at least three positions (LG, RG, RT). Only knock on him is his age (24 in Sept) but contracts are only 4 years anyway so when he's looking for a new deal he'll be 28. That could work in the Steeler's favor.

Good point re unlimted upside..  That's another knock at taking a Zeitler at #24.. pretty much topped out.  Amini is another player but again will he be BPA at #24?     Man I wish we had a look at the Steelers board....
