Good link, Greg. Thanks again! I plan to watch all of those videos. Not so long ago I had some Mormons attempt to draw me into their church. I thank God for Biblical truth which is ultimately what stood between me and them. The truth will set you free indeed.

Greg and Armyman, great advice indeed.  If we can't stick to the Bible and speak the truth in love, we will be ineffective servants.  Unfortunately, many of our churches don't teach the Bible anymore.  I refuse to be involved with a church that doesn't teach the Bible--every book every verse beginning to end in the original languages.  Our enemy is well trained in twisting scripture and deceiving people; we must love and support them while trying to show them the truth.

Greg, may I share your info with Anita before she begins her Bible study next week?  She needs time to study, but she is already following your advice--stick to the Bible, love the ones you speak with, concentrate on what they cannot answer even from their own Bibles, and be aware of the history of mistranslation.  I will share your post with her as soon as you let me know you are OK with it!

My wife's grandmother is much better and is going home today so that is a blessing.  Fortunately my wife is going to be able to go see her this weekend and that will make her feel so much better as well.  The truth is her grandmother is 92 years old and this has been a wake up call to all of us that we need to spend as much time with her as we possibly can.

We all get so busy in our lives it becomes real easy to say I can always do _______ later but the truth is we need to make time in our lives for the ones we love so that we can cherish them.  This has been a stark reminder to me that we should slow our lives down and give thanks to the Lord for what we have and spend more time appreciating it.

If there is someone special in your life that you have been meaning to go see or call make plans to just do it.  Live your life in joy and happiness and share it with the Lord and those that you love.

Praying for everyone on this thread and I thank God for adding such great people into my life.

Have a blessed week!

Anyone needing sound material to use in conversing with JWs should check out this excerpt online from Dr. Martin's landmark book, Kingdom of the Cults.  This was really the foundation resource for evangelization and apologetics to the cults in America.  It is a response to the bewildering amount of distortion and deception that is thrown at a believer- particularly if they are ill- informed and/or naive in the faith.  As ArmyMan pointed out, they can tie a typical believer in knots, often resulting in frustration and non- Christlike reactions.  Often the believer knows something is not right, but they don't know exactly why.  The cultist talks about Jesus- but it's not the Jesus we know from the New Testament.  They talk about salvation- but it isn't by grace through faith.  They use all the Christian terms, but have so re- defined them as to render them meaningless.  Dr. Martin describes the reasons and solutions for this dilemma.  This link is simply a portion relating to JWs.  He also discusses Mormons and most other cults.  The New Age was a little before this time, but the principles are not that different.

Remember, get them to stick to the Bible, atonement, and the Biblical gospel.  Anything else leads to sin.  Pray, love, and be patient.  Allow the Holy Spirit to lead and produce the fruit.

Thanks for the link, Greg, I have the late Dr. Martin's book, too, and you are right about it being a groundbreaking source of information.  His work has been continued by the Christian Research Institute (www.equip.org) and by the Ankerberg Theological Institute.  I use Ravi Zacharias alot as well as Chuck Missler.  I shared your info with Anita.  Her Bible study starts this Thursday with a young woman who will be bringing an older man (JW teacher) with her since the young woman couldn't answer Anita's questions.  Please keep our sister in prayer as she speaks the truth in love to these two people.

"The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing."
Psalm 65:13

Each year the rice paddies were laid out and the tender plants were planted. Each year the people of the village waited with anxious hope, looking to see whether the storms would come and wash the fields away. Many times, the people would watch as their hard labor was destroyed, but other times they rejoiced to see their crops full and bountiful. After each harvest, the village offered a portion of their harvest to God, thanking Him for his mercy and grace.

What do we offer to God when we are blessed with good things? Do we even remember to say thank you? The Lord has given us so much, and we should always and everywhere give Him thanks and praise.

Father, in bad times, please be my strength; in good times, celebrate with me, Lord. Thanks for being with me, doing so much for me, and giving so much to me. Thank You for so many answered prayers among us.  We praise Your Holy Name, Amen.

Good post, keepitreal.

We praise Your Holy Name, Amen.
Oh that I could have the heart of Job:

' the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. '

Lord, please give me the gift of praising You even when times appear bleak and destitute. Please give me the heart of Job.
Blessed be the name of the LORD. Amen.

Lord, I ask that you lift up my cousin Jenny and keep her faith strong. Heal her leukemia and let Your will be done and not mine.
Blessed be the name of the LORD. Amen.

Amen.  You are so riight, Sis.

I am so guilty of an ungrateful heart.  When I have good times, I tend to bask in them as if I'm a self- made man.  When things are rotten and I'm in distress, isn't it peculiar I don't also claim the same?  No, it's always easier to look at someone else, as if they're to blame for my bad choices and moral failures.

I have my health, a beautiful family, a new grandson, a job (actually a satisfying career), and freedom.  Yet, when I get criticism or disappointing results at work, I whine and complain.  When politicians disappoint, lie, or reveal plots to defaud and deceive, I am outraged and feel a sense of betrayal.  When the music in church stinks, I roll my eyes.

Many of my current crop of students are Nepali refugees.  They grew up in refugee camps.  They are victims of repression and racism.  And we sometimes think we have problems.  God gave them to me to remind me how blessed we are.  These kids literally arrived with the rags on their backs.  What a blessing it is to work with Lutheran Family Services to place them in aparments, get the parents jobs, and begin teaching them English.  Most now have enough language skills to tell me that even though we don't proselytize overtly, they tell me that they prefer going to Christian services that are offered, rather than the festivals their community celebrates, because the Christians love them and ask nothing in return.  They know that some of us (teachers and caseworkers and volunteers) are Christians by or words and attitudes.  In the public schools we can only discuss faith on non- class time and if the student initiates the conversation.  Even in this narrow window, God works.

What a spectacular moment when an eighteen year old kid who was born Hindu and who has so little says to you without pretense of reservation, "I love you."  It is shocking and humbling, let me tell you.  I recently had this experience with one of my students.  I managed a grateful smile, and asked, "Why do you say that?"  The reply- "because you care for us, and we are nobody."  I have to confess, i'm a crusty old guy, but I've shed more than a few tears this year.

Lord watch over all those on this thread hear their prayers and bring answers that glorify you.  We give praise for victories such as Gary's test results and all the other answered prayers.

Be with our friend Armyman and give him the heart of Job, the strength of Samson, the courage of Daniel and the Wisdom of Solomon.  Watch over his family members that are dealing with sickness and bring comfort, healing, love and joy to their lives.

"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine."
Ephesians 3:20

Prayer has to do with God and His ability to do. God's ability to do goes far beyond our ability to ask. Prayer goes forward by God's power!

Lord, thank You for the knowledge that You're able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. To You be all the glory forever! In Jesus Name, Amen.

1.  The 7th grade basketball player I put on this list the other day had her foot turn blue and the mom has taken her back to the doctor for x-rays.  Very odd thing to happen for a knee injury so please keep her in your prayers.

She has been in my prayers. Will keep her lifted up.

2.  We got a call last night that my wife's 92 year old grandmother was taken to the doctor and blood work came back way off and they ended up doing an emergency blood transfusion.  She is in ICU today and family is facing to get to the small town in Mississippi that she lives in.  My wife is a mess and is not taking this well at all and her dad (this is his mom and he is an only child) is a type 1 diabetic and stress is never good for a 65 year old diabetic.  Please keep all 3 in your prayers.

Praying for healing and comfort, brother. Is grandmother saved?

Hawgwild, I also praise God for ProudDad's cancer remission and I pray for his continued health.  This coming October, this thread will be seven years old, and many have come and gone during that time.  We have seen some of our brothers and sisters go home to be with the Lord and we have seen others receive healing and be restored to us.  I'm glad you have found us and I know our group will continue to bring to our Father the needs for healing, comfort, security, rest, and more.  We pray for those needs expressed and unexpressed and for blessings and truth to be imparted with love to all who come here.  I will keep on praying!!!   Let the glory be the Lord's!

Be God's!
