ok so we all have mixed feelings on Gene, what about Jack Nicholson? He's another guy I would put in that genre, loved him in the Shining and Cuckoo's Nest, but his off screen persona rubs me the wrong way.

Me too Hawk but I'd have to list him as one of the greats "on screen". I'm not real sure arrogance is required to be great. Spencer tracy, Kurt Douglas, Dustin Hoffman, Clint Eastwood, Anthony Hopkins and others prve that IMO.

Michael Caine, he is very underrated IMO, but going to that side of the pond, how about Peter O Toole and Sean Connery, two guys who made great great movies and quite a few bad ones...seems everyone has Caine's opinion, they paid them...hahahaha. |

Hawk,
I put eastwood and Connery in the same boat. The moveis they started with prompted the thought that they needed to find a more suiting job. As they went, they learned thier craft "on the job" so to speak and both the movies and their performances got better IMO. |

hawk - i read that when michael caine won his first oscar for hannah and her sisters, he was not at the oscar show. where was he...on the film set in the bahamas makine jaws 4 - enough said. i also read after his second oscar, he regretted making so many bad movies in the 80's etc and that he would never go back to doing that again.
connery needed to be in more movies in the 80's and 90's and wasnt. like i said earlier, every actor and actress has taken the paycheck to bad movies. my thing is you do read the script and you still do it? you're that hard up for money you make garbage like jaws 4...? come on. |

huh, that sounds like a winner, why didn't it get picked for the Oscars?
Peter O Toole, aka Lawrence, did a movie called High Spirits which I have seen a few times (really dumb but somehow drawn to it) and others such as Club Paradise, Supergirl, King Ralph, even played Sherlock Holmes, but considering his considerable stage career and the movies he made that were just so good, I guess it balances out. Heck Lawrence itself cancels out all the bad ones, but you have to be in the right mood to watch that one, it's long and it's not a comedy. I did love his voice in Ratatouille as well as the food critic and this guy is actually still acting at 80. Seems like he would be the coolest Uncle on the planet. |

after seeing their roster, i think the AL wins in a walk tonight. they are loaded for bear. the nl and their lame voted starters of posey and kung fu panda are a joke. ruiz and wright gives the nl a better chance to win, not much, but a better chance.

Posey is better than Ruiz, but Wright is better than Pablo, just my opinion...I haven't watched the last few ASG's and likely won't tonight, I just have a hard time getting into all star games, first, it's in the middle of the season and who is good now may stink later, and vice versa so it's a hollow honor, plus with fan voting, ugh, fans are way too biased of course so we get players in who should be at home. Then they replace so many guys that it isn't even the same lineup as intended. |

Posey is better than Ruiz,
huh? have you seen their stats? guess is who is either leading or 2nd in batting average in the NATIONAL LEAGUE? It's Ruiz as a catcher. Posey is batting under .290. and has less hrs than Ruiz now! How is he better ? ruiz .350 13 hrs 46 rbis and 41 runs scored posey .280 10 hrs 43 rbis and 35 runs scored. i think you need to change your opinion hawk on this one. ruiz is clearly better this year. after speaking against ruiz here - you're not cool at all!

I am not thinking this year though, just overall, Ruiz was out earlier this year, he is good, but if you were a GM, which one would you take? Still the King of Cool! You might be a tad biased as well?

Ha, you jinxed the AL Catfish, sheesh, Verlander stunk it up, this is why pitchers should never ever ever be counted as MVPs, he just wasn't and Ellsbury got robbed last year, this is why...He looked like he was serving up BP out there. Big Verlander fail but the bats didn't really bail him out either, hard to come back down 5-0 in a game like that. I watched that first half inning and gave way to the wife and did other things.
The most fun I had during the ASG was when a Batman movie came on and I gave her an innuendo...hahah, The Dark Knight Rises...told her I was the White Knight and well am sure you can think for yourself, she gave me a groan and told me to go away. Ah love and marriage, hahahaha. She watched Real Housewives instead. |

hawk--pish posh--who cares about overall. i mean right now as the voting was now. who cares about some kid who was hurt half of last year over chooch, who played the whole year. better?? yeah bc in his younger days chooch couldn't hit but was a great catcher. anyone can tell you he should have 2 gold gloves now but the voters wanna blow molina every damn year! now chooch can hit so watch out.
and anyone with dumb nicknames of "chipper" and "buster" can go suck eggs for all i care. we would beat kids up with names like that in our school. get real and grow up. my friend's 7 yr old son is named "joey." joey this and joey that. i hope when he grows up it's "joe" bc joey is a little boys name, not an adult name like joey votto. ugh. my older brother has been joe catfish since day 1. never called "joey" in his life. and yes i jinxed the AL - haha. and hawk--aren't you a little biased on ellsbury being al mvp ? isn't he a red sox? haha what does last night have anything to do with the ap mvp voting in sept? nothing. just bc someone is great 1 yr and sucks wind the next year means nothing. look at the records of ian kennedy and clayton kershaw - enough said! and you as the white knight? more like the white troll under the bridge. haha. |

In Posey's defense, his real name is Gerald Dempsey Posey III, and his dad was already nicknamed Demp. His nickname, "Buster," came from his father's childhood nickname so says his bio...so in his case, Gerald? well I can't blame him for sticking with Buster. Buster Keaton would like to talk to you Catfish...hahahaha.
I am biased with Ellsbury, BUT he was the best choice last year with Granderson a close second as MVP, NOT Verlander. Pitchers should not be MVP's, we hashed this out last year though. Also I was annoyed that Verlander stunk it up last night. Thanks for your support, I shall now find a cool bridge to hide under, but come on, thought was at least points for some cleverness. Where is everyone? |

good morning yam and phoggy.
hawk -- good one on nicholson. a great actor who is great in a ton of movies. doesn't act a lot now. won 3 oscars, but is a little hammy onscreen at times. His Lakers thing is annoying. I will say he was at a Phillies game 3 yrs ago in a Yankees cap(they didn't play the yankees that game) so when the Phillie Phantic came out to do his routine in a batman costume and rode his motorcycle right in front of nicholson and the pa system played the old batman theme music with adam west and showed nicholson on the jumbo tron and he laughed it up. he enjoyed the phantic and pointed to him and said "batman." haha. |
